This week on the show, Ruby Fremon joins me to talk conscious vs unconscious leadership, leadership as an inner-game, and visibility vs. being seen.

I also shared my experiences during our Machu Picchu, Peru adventure. The highlights of this adventure are always being away from technology, getting out of your normal life, and just being with people in a beautiful location enjoying nature and spending time with each other.

Ruby and I discuss:

  • Ruby's No Bullshit approach of just cutting right to the chase and diving into what the actual issue and how this approach helped her into her transformation
  • Distraction of clarity is one of the common issues people tend to sway away from the root problem
  • Being more devoted to your inner work than to your service because the more we can serve ourselves, the greater we can serve others
  • Seeing leaders plateauing and how they start to feel stagnant and how she is there to support these conscious leaders
  • The higher you rise in your leadership, the louder your fears become and new limitations, edges, patterns start to come out
  • You need to confront your limitations, edges, patterns in order for you to continue rising
  • Being vulnerable/ being real creates the connection
  • What separates conscious leaders from the rest
  • Everything we experienced helps to refine us and bring us closer to who we are and to our truth.
  • On her journey on finding her own voice and sharing her story
  • Having the courage to show yourself of who you are
  • It's not about trying to create your voice but it's actually uncovering your voice.
  • The more focused Ruby on her work, the better her relationship with her family has gotten.
  • Focus on controlling what's controllable.
  • To create a healthy boundaries, you need to get clear with your needs and create the boundary around that need
  • Your greatest contribution to humanity is working on yourself.
  • Expressing yourself in alignment of who you are

I also shared our preparation for our Peru trip.

Scott and I discuss:

  • Scott's obsession for the last 10 years and how learning French inspired him to write his book "Ultralearning"
  • How his encounter with Benny Lewis introduced him to Ultralearning - an aggressive strategy for learning hard things and learning it on your own
  • Different philosophy when it comes to learning

  • Breaking down learning into principles
  • The difference in learning languages in European and Asian countries
  • Ultralearning is a strategy for self-directed learning that is also aggressive
  • To learn something is to be bad at it (at least in the beginning)
  • Their year-long project of not speaking their native language
  • How one can maximize time spent reading as opposed to the number of books finished
  • One reason you don't learn some skills is because there's a kind of will power you need to get over
  • On having emotional reaction to things like learning
  • If you want to learning anything, you can learn it if you approach it the right way
  • Things that would qualify as ultralearning are things that people do all the time
  • Debugging your own learning process and studying your successes and failures can help you improve how you can get better at things
  • The capacity to think in terms of abstract visual spaces is related to visual working memory
  • How his experience at MIT was transformative for him
  • How Ultralearning can help someone going into business
  • One of the strategies in the book is the idea of directness
